As I pondered this late eve upon the prose and poetry I love so much, trying to choose what to share, I gave to heart these little reading books, and poetry quotes. Oh, you know I am endeared to this pastime so greatly, that I must share my joy of books. Since April is Poetry Month, here are some quotes you may know (or not) on the topic of reading and poetry ...
Reading maketh a full man; conference a ready man; and writing an exact man. -Francis Bacon, Essays of Studies
I love to lose myself in men's minds. When I am not walking, I am reading; I cannot sit and think. Books think for me.-Charles Lamb, Lost Essays of Elia
My definition of pure poetry, something that the poet creates outside of his own personality. - George Moore, Introduction to Anthology of Pure Poetry
There is no frigate like a book
To take us lands away,
Nor any coursers like a page
Of prancing poetry
Emily Dickenson, Poems, I, 99
Enjoy. Write about something you love. Read to someone you love.
Here is a bit of my own poetry from one of my books ...
A dark sparkling eye full of dusky desire shines upon me,
and down comes his mouth to capture my breath
Sweet innocence chased and fire like whiskey
Touches my lips and my soul doth break.
B'neath, my limbs quake, my mind is numb
And I drown in his fiery wake.
If I should die, let it be now, for I am lost in love.
